Terra Platform

Terra is a cloud-native platform for biomedical researchers to access data, run analysis tools, and collaborate securely. Developed by the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in collaboration with Microsoft and Verily, Terra is an open-source platform used by over 65,000 individuals globally for biomedical data analysis, secure data sharing, and cross-enterprise data science collaborations. The platform provides a user-friendly environment that enables researchers to access datasets, apply tools securely at scale, and share work either privately with collaborators or publicly with the world in a completely reproducible and extensible form. Terra supports major projects including FireCloud, AnVIL, and the All of Us Research Program's Researcher Workbench. Using the Workflow Description Language (WDL), the platform simplifies running optimized pipelines, integrates external tools, performs interactive analyses, and enables access to various cloud-hosted datasets.

My work involved:

  • Focus on data journeys, platform, and analysis journeys.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and others to define problems and goals, map user flows,
design and prototype in Figma, and help define new products and features.

  • Serve as a key contributor in our product discovery process, clearly presenting and explaining ideas
and designs to colleagues and development partners, and persuasively guiding others toward the best solutions.

  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of our design system, working alongside others to ensure
consistency and quality as the product evolves

  • Facilitating discovery interviews, user testing, and working with client support to identify user pain points
